Aligarh Muslim University, in the wee hours of September 17, saw the third murder of its students, inside the campus, in less than six months.

Mohammad Mazhar Nazim of Meerut, a second year BSc student, was stabbed twice in the head and on the neck in a deserted lane near the university’s sports complex.

The students got ablazed with anger towards administration and vented it out be setting Vice-Chancellor ’s residence, staff club, proctor office and some other university buildings afire.

In all these unfortunate happening one thing which is most shocking is the callousness of the university administration towards the victims, whose killers roam freely even today. Even after having periodic incidents of violence, the university administration has only collided with anti-social elements by not cracking down on cache of illegal arms in the university campus. Its lexed policy towards the constant presence of non-students inside the campus has only led to recurring violent incidents.

Even students are partly to be blamed for their insensitiveness towards destruction of their alma mater. The worst of all: fashion of flaunting country made guns by students even over every small altercation. Their attitude can be summarized as more guns you have, the bigger goon you are.

All this has resulted into the university being in news regularly for the wrong reasons, and this has only tarnished the reputation of the Oxford of the East. The University has been closed sine die.
