India has large number of talented writers and bloggers, but the sad part is not many are as famous as their fellow bloggers from other countries. Many a times so many interesting conversations go unheard, just because either the blogger is not verse with technical complexities of blogging phenomena or is not able to network properly with other bloggers in same niche.
There are many factors responsible behind this skewed growth of blogging in India. On the other side, blogging has emerged as a major tool of expression internationally. What bloggers lack in India is a clear understanding of the underlying principles of the new media and their own position out there respectively. Myths like, easy money or no money, have prevented talent from getting the desired exposure.
It’s true that to get good traction for your blog, a writer needs to have good understanding of many technical and marketing concepts like hosting, networking with fellow bloggers, marketing, search engine optimization, social news and he should keep himself updated with ever-changing online world.
I have always been a fan of localized blogging, people blogging from small cities, churning out news which mainstream media misses so regularly. However, localized communities is all together a different cup of tea. In last few years, we have seen a rapid growth in localized and disunited communities in India. Disunited to such an extent that people in these communities considers others their competitors. There are Chennai Bloggers, Bangalore bloggers, Ahmedabad bloggers, etc, but what about Indian bloggers. Indiabloggies was a nice step in a positive direction, but it seems Debashish has got busy with other projects. Desipundit has also plateaued 2 years ago.
What we need is a single cohesive platform, where bloggers from all over India irrespective of regions come together and share their experiences, interests to a wider audience rather than in small groups. It can certainly turn out to be a wholescale blogging movement where bloggers and even small groups from all over the country can interact and get more exposure, share tools and most importantly, network with each other.
Instablogs has been trying to achieve similar goal in our pursuit of uniting bloggers and readers all over the world. But this post is about the effort of a local blogging group from Delhi who are thinking on similar lines. From Delhi bloggers to Indian Bloggers. The meet is on 12th Jan 2008, and I am really excited to meet the group and exchange idea. If you are in Delhi, do drop by, information is available on their website.
