The Audience - it has a variety of names and has played different roles in different eras.
In the 90’s people called them eyeballs. These eyeballs used to pay you a visit, enjoy the show and then leave.
Today, we call them community. Community members are expected to not only enjoy the show but run the show as well.
In the 90’s, you focused on building the show. Today, you focus on building the community. Moreover, you are expected to give tools that catalyze community participation.
There would be no Myspace if audience had not built the content. How many people would have used Flickr if it was only for watching others’ pictures. Not all the successful web 2.0 projects were successful because they used Ajax, pastel colors, or sleek looking functionalities. They were successful because they let the audience build the content around your tools.
Let your audience be your boss.
Listen to them carefully. Empower your audience.
This is the web 2.0 mantra

I can’t agree more with ya on that. You have hit the nail right on the head on the Web 2.0 mantra. No community, no Web 2.0. It is as simple as that.
