Instablogs Community Update-2

Made Popular Oct 30 2006

Instablogs Community is now two weeks old. We have restricted the initial membership to only few members at the moment. We all want to invite our friends, but believe me guys rules are same for everyone. Lets first fix the small bugs, and design the few pages left, before any of us gets to invite anyone.

Please do keep sending us your feedback, its very important for us. Our team reviews all your feedbacks daily and I believe most of the top issues have been resolved.

Updates

1. Quick Inbox, Send Messaging, Add a friend, Accept Pending Requests are working fine now.
2. Now you can`t add yourself as your friend. Thanks Pratyush for spotting it.
3. Few guys have been promoted to editors. New editors can find Editor tab next to Personalize tab in Admin Panel.
4. We are doing more stress testing on the network. There might be some temporary outages, but no need to worry if you see that, if that happens, the problem will be solved as soon as possible.

And for newcomers, the best way to get a feel about what you see and do do in Instablogs Community is to start browsing channels in our ReadingRoom.

There is an healthy debate going on between our community members over the issue of giving more power to readers.

1. In coming days you CANNOT edit/delete/modify any comments left by readers on your blog posts. You can only rate/flag a comment.
2. Only members of Instablogs can post comments on community as well as 100+ blogs under Instablogs Network. Though you don`t need to be a member to read posts/articles or browse through community members’s blog, profiles etc.

The decision to disallow bloggers to edit/modify comments on their own blogs might pinch a few bloggers. Since few powers exerted by our writers in past won`t be there. But for a collective platform which is going to bring bloggers and readers closer, this is surely going to help. Afterall people who spend time on your blog reading your posts and giving comments should be treated with more respect. Healthy communities work best when all people participating have equal power. We are trying to treat every comment left on a post or article on Instablogs Network, as a post itself. Whenever a comment is rated positive, the background-color will be more darker, so it will highlight the good comments more.

We are also working on a system to rate all comments, and highligh the top comments left in each channels.

I think that the powers given to the readers are good as they should be treated with respect and should have some powers to modify a post...

But there should be some special powers that should only reside with the bloggers and not with the readers..

I think this is a step taken in right direction. Moreover, these abovementioned features are so inveigling that one can’t say away from Instablogs.

i think it will be good to give equal power to both bloggers and the person who is writing stories. as it will give the genuine guys a feel that they also have some say in the community. wt i feel is the persons who are writing nasty things should be blocked after warning them once .

I deliberately left the above comment. Now since bloggers don’t have power to remove a comment, it will stay there.

My point is not letting bloggers remove comments you are giving freedom to readers to abuse the system in anyway they want.

Rating comments is good, but removing unwanted, spam, abusive comments is a necessity.

We always have to loose something in order to achieve a better .... and this step is towards the welfare of Instablogs so, I don’t think this will pinch anyone.

Good Luck To Instablogs!!

I just tried the socialize section and was pleased to find that the things have been sorted out now. I am personally trying every part of the community and request all other members to do the same so that we may find the shortcomings if any. Well, while posting a comment we have to enter the number two times often...Please do check that out.

I have seen the Instablogs Software Development Team, working day and night to put it all together. Today it is really touchy and makes the team proud for it has added features to the community that not only makes it user-friendly, but has taken interaction in a freelance community to a higher level.
I just did that in some curiosity as i saw the ’invite friend’ option appeared infront of me. I thought can i invite myself as my friend in my friend list? Anyways, we are on good path and experiencing good participation from everywhere.

All the best Instablogs.

Mark,

We can’t allow everyone to delete comments in the blogs here because that way a dissenting voice may be silenced.

As far as the removal of spam is concerned, we have a spam filter here. However, some crap to pass in and we remove them manually through the editor control panel.

The comment section in our community has rate and flag comments. User participation is what we seek even when it comes to rating comments. The features are in place and you will be able to see them once our community is officially launched. If you are already an invited member, you can check it out through your CP.

BTW, have removed your ’spam’ comment. :-)
